Every two years a folklore festival is organised by our organisation.
The festival is named the International Dance-festival Burgum.
About 10 - 15 folklore dance-, musical- and choral-groups are
participating every time.
The
next festival will be held from the 12th (date of arrival) till the
17th (date of departure) of June 2007.
Dance-, musical- and choral-groups from several countries all over the
world participated already in our festival:
2005: Costa Rica, Cuba, France, Greece, India, the Netherlands,
Slovakia, Sweden, Togo.
2003: Armenia, Colombia,
Gambia, Hungary, Latvia, Mongolia, the Netherlands, Oekraïne, Papua New
Guinea, Romania and Slovenia.
2001: Because of the outbreak of foot- and mouth disease in our province
we unfortunately had to cancel the International Skots- and Folkfestival.
1999: Argentina, France, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Estonia, Poland, Togo,
Portugal, Bolivia, Finland, the Republic of Kalmykia, the Netherlands.
1997: Siberia, Lithuania, Austria, Romania, Ireland, Belo Russia,
Ukraine, Italy, Yugoslavia, India, the Netherlands.
1995: Italy, Finland, Hungary, Slovakia, Filipinos, Bask,
Czechoslovakia, Israel, Bulgaria and 3 groups from the Netherlands.
In 2007 the festival in Burgum will be held for the
ninth time.
Burgum is one of the villages of the Municipality Tytsjerksteradiel and
situated in the beautiful Province of Fryslân in the North part of the
Netherlands. The provincial capital is LEEUWARDEN.
The program of the festival:
Gala Performances.
Performances in the theatre. Performances in shopping area.
Folklore market.
A unique open-air folklore market where the participating countries will
be selling works of craftsmanship and traditional handiwork. Traditional
Cooking. Parade. The parade will be one of the highlights, with
all participating groups performing songs, dances and music as they
march through the centre of Burgum. The 400 foreign guests, accompanied
by local and regional musical groups, will form a colourful procession
that is sure to be picturesque.
